ProClime Lanka has signed an MOA with the Ministry of Local Government & Environment, Eastern Province, Sri Lanka, to embark on a groundbreaking project to restore and conserve tidal forests and mangrove ecosystems in the region.
This partnership aligns with Sri Lanka’s climate aspirations, with an emphasis on the critical role of biodiversity conservation, climate change mitigation, and improving coastal protection. The project aims to restore up to 5,000 hectares of degraded mangrove and forest areas across districts like Trincomalee, Batticaloa, and Ampara.
ProClime Lanka will oversee the restoration process, monitor project performance, verify carbon credits, and monetize them under international standards like VCS or Gold Standard. Local communities and stakeholders will also be engaged, ensuring sustainable development and biodiversity conservation while reinvesting in future projects.
This project is one of our many efforts with Blue Carbon to harness coastal ecosystems like mangroves which sequester significant amounts of carbon, consequently reducing greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. The conservation and restoration of these ecosystems is essential for mitigating climate change as they protect coastlines and support biodiversity.
