We’re pleased to announce that ProClime Lanka has entered a significant partnership with the Rubber Research Institute of Sri Lanka (RRISL) to establish a rubber cultivation project aimed at improving forest ecosystems and supporting community development in the Eastern and Uva Provinces of Sri Lanka.
The project will involve restoring 3000 hectares of degraded land with rubber plantations and intercropping with cocoa and cinnamon trees. This approach promotes biodiversity, carbon sequestration, and sustainable livelihoods for local communities. The project, registered under the VCS standard with Verra (ID 2577), will generate carbon credits that can be sold on the voluntary carbon market, contributing to Sri Lanka's net-zero goals.
As part of the agreement, RRISL will establish nurseries for rubber, cocoa, and cinnamon, as well as train farmers on sustainable agricultural practices, and monitor project activities through farmer diaries.
ProClime Lanka will provide technical guidance for project management, ensuring compliance with VCS/Verra standards. We will also manage the carbon credit portfolio and monetize the credits, generating revenue that can be used to support the project and local communities.
This project is part of our ongoing Afforestation, Reforestation, and Revegetation (ARR) efforts which are crucial for combating climate change, restoring biodiversity, and preventing soil erosion. Our approach combines advanced frameworks to deliver sustainable, long-lasting results, by conducting site-specific assessments to select appropriate native species, ensuring they align with the local ecosystem and promote long-term growth. This careful planning enhances ecosystem compatibility and biodiversity while supporting carbon capture.
